STORY

Connecting a power supply to your desktop computer is more about knowing the voltage you need rather than wiring it all inside the desktop case. More so if you are installing a power supply needed for a graphics card let say where the watts are important.

First begin by understanding the types of components your desktop computer is going to be using, for example how many hard drives and which type of graphics card; and even if you are also connecting a gaming like motherboard.

The average recommended voltage on a computer power supply for normal use starts at 300watts, and if you are using it for gaming and other alike components then starts are the 500watts level; I always recommend for the rule of thumb in is best to have plenty then to be limited on power would be to start your voltage at at least 600watts on any giving power supply.

Even though most motherboard and also graphics card are typically Ok with a 500watts power supply, you will find that some graphics card will require at least half that to power itself; and so we are not even counting the require power for the rest of the computer.

You will find now days different types of power supplies from white, to bronze, to gold models; and these are different depending on its application use; for the average recommendation going with a white or bronze model is just as good and there is no need to go higher unless you are powering some very restricted like motherboard or graphics card.

Choosing a power supply comes down to preference but for me I always choose cooler master like power supplies, I like their easy of installation as well as their cable like design; knowing which connection goes where is as simple as following the tips of each cable to match with those on the motherboard and the graphics card or the hard drive etc.

When needing to install a new power supply for the first time, or even if you are replacing your old power supply; is always important to connect the most required components such as the motherboard and your hard drive as well as any optical drives you may be using if any plus if present as in my example here a graphics card.
